Recalls & Defects

VIN WBAWL73537PX47611 may have been recalled. Check full report for more information

This condition could cause the fan motor to become inoperative, or cause the motor circuit board in the assembly to overheat, potentially leading to a fire in the engine compartment.

This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Valeo. Valeo is recalling certain engine cooling fans, part numbers 696121, 696273, and 696275, used as service replacement parts for model year 2008-2011 BMW 1-Series, 2006-2011 BMW 3-Series, 2000-2009 BMW 5-Series, 2004-2005 BMW 6-Series, and 2006-2007 BMW 7-Series vehicles. A metal-oxide semiconductor may overheat due to insufficient screwing of the semiconductor on the aluminum heat sink. This primary failure could cause adjacent components on the fan assembly motor circuit board to overheat and short.

Between the wife and I, we have owned an E30, E36, E46 and this E93 BMW. As with the others, when it works correctly, it is fantastic. When it doesn't, it breaks your heart and wallet. First off, MPG is horrid. Best we've had is 24mpg. Coils go bad randomly, I've replaced 3 in a year and a half. It's a lengthy explanation, but due to the direct injection, you HAVE to get the intake valves cleaned about every 30-40k miles, and it's about $1000 each time. But the worst is the fact that it eats rear tires like nothing I've ever seen. Like they are made of butter. 5000-6000 miles, max, and it doesn't matter what brand or treadwear rating they are. Summer tires, All-seasons, doesn't matter. Nothing lasts more than about 6000 miles. I've owned this car 18 months, and I just vaporized the FOURTH SET of rear tires. It sees 90% highway miles. Unless you drive sparingly, or simply have unlimited funds to feed this thing, I cannot under any circumstances recommend this car to anyone.
